Fully activate iOS 5 Beta 1-4 without jailbreaking!

Okay guys, this is a fairly new way of Activating iOS 5 beta without having a registered UDID. I can comfirm this works because i recently tested it on my friends iPhone 3GS running iOS 5 beta 4 (the latest version).

This process requires you to download:
Redsnow 9.8b4 - Windows
Redsn0w 9.8b4 - Mac
Custom Bundle - Mediafire
An iDevice loaded with iOS 5 beta 1-4

So what this process does, is install a custom SystemVersion.plist file, which already has the bottom two lines of code removed without installing cydia. It does this by installing a custom bundle with the pre-edited SystemVersion.plist

Step 1: Plug your iDevice with iOS 5 beta 1-4 into the computer.

Step 2: Turn the iDevice off whilst connected to the computer.

Step 3: Run Redsn0w 9.8b4

Step 4: Search for your .ipsw firmware file that is on your iDevice.

Step 5: Once it's identified the firmware file succesfully, click next.

Step 6: Click 'Install Custom Bundle' and select the file you downloaded names '
iOS 5 UUID ByPass.gz' and hit next.

Step 7: Hit next again.

Step 8: Hold the power button for 3 seconds, keep holding power and start holding home for 10 seconds, after 10 seconds let go of power and keep holding home until redsn0w says 'Exploiting Limera1n.

Step 9: Let the iDevice do its thing until you're greeted with the setup screen on your iDevice.

Step 10: Go through the setup screen and you're done!

You now have a fully activated iDevice without being jailbroken!

Unlike other Activation Bypass methods, this allows you to gain full control of all the iOS 5 features, and for iPhones, it lets your recieve signal so you can make calls and send texts!

I hope this has helped :)

Create FREE iPhone ringtones using iTunes!

Remember those good, old days when creating an iPhone ringtone was as easy as renaming a song in your iTunes library to a “.m4r” extension and then syncing it back with your iPhone? No? Well, trust us when we say that iPhone ringtones were never easier (or free-er) to create.

That is, until iTunes 8. With the release of iTunes 8 – which brought with it Genius Playlists – creating iPhone ringtones has once again become a painless process. iTunes 8 allows the user to customize a particular song’s start- and end-time, paving the way for an iPhone ringtone creation “hack” that requires nothing more than iTunes itself.

Keep in mind that iTunes will allow you to create a ringtone from a song downloaded through the iTunes Music Store, but those ringtones come with fees… and no one likes fees. Follow this guide to create free iPhone ringtones for free using nothing more than iTunes.

To create simple, free iPhone ringtones from your iTunes library, follow these steps:

  • Note: This process works with MP3, ACC, and AIFF files.
  • Note: Only DRM-free songs can be used with this ringtone creation process.
    • Any song downloaded from iTunes Music Store will h
ave DRM (Digital Rights Management), so don’t use those songs.
    • Any song ripped from a CD or downloaded from DRM-free sources (P2P, Amazon, your friend) will work just fine.

    • Fire up iTunes (if you havn't already updated, DO IT).
    • Find the song you’d like to turn in to a ringtone
  • Select the song you want to use as your iPhone ringtone
  • Right click on the song
  • Select “Get Info”
  • Hit the “Options” tabCheck both the “Start Time” and “End Time” boxes
  • Customize the start and end times for your ringtone clip
  • Specify what time interval you’d like to use as your ringtone clip (Make sure your ringtone is 40 seconds or less!!)
  • Click “OK”
  • Make sure the song you want is still highlighted
  • Click on “Advanced” in your menu bar
  • Select “Create AAC Version” or “Create Apple Lossless Version” (Make sure your iTunes “Import Settings” are set to “AAC” or “Apple Lossless” and not “MP3″)

  • You want to create a duplicate song file with the customized playing time
  • A duplicate copy of your song will appear in iTunes – this new song will have the same filename but shorter “Time” Go back to the original song and uncheck those “Start Time” and “End Time” boxes

See the duplicate song underneath the original song?

    • Drag the duplicate song to your Desktop

Duplicate song file on Desktop

  • Once the duplicate song is copied to your Desktop, delete the duplicate file in iTunes

Notice that the duplicate song file is gone - deleted

  • On your Desktop, rename the file with the “.m4r” file extension – Use the new extension
  • This turns your song file into an iPhone ringtone file

Use the new filename extension

The .m4r file is now a ringtone file

  • Your “songname.m4a” file should now be named “songname.m4r”
  • Double click the new file you've made and it will start playing in itunes.
  • Click ringtones and your new ringtone will be there!

The novelty from iOS 5 beta 4

The main two novelties from iOS 5 beta 4 are the possibility to synchronize through Wi-Fi a iDevice with iTunes even on Windows and the option to make OTA update directly from the terminal. These functions are very important in the future too and they will surely prove very efficient and useful.

But above these facts, there are also some minor changes that Apple made it. There are some minor things, but very important. If the user doesn’t have jailbreak he has the possibility to make OTA Update from General and then on the Software update option.

The manufacturer improved the security system of iCloud and it is necessary that the user will set a secret question in which he can answer if the password’s account is forgotten.

The problems from the event’s synchronizing of the Calendar application from iOS 5 beta 1 or Mobile Me are history because they will not be on iOS 5 beta 4.

The local contacts from Mobile Me are displayed separately from the rest of the dates. The problems with the forward function for the e-mails that have attachments were solved also. The Mail application often lost the attachments of the e-mails that were received from forward command.

Apple updated OpenGI from iOS 5 and this way the games ‘developers will not be forced to update their creation in order to have a proper functioning of the new operational system.

More, another feature is that VoIP applications form the background will be blocked and the developers will be forced to find some alternative methods in order to maintain their applications in active mode. FaceTime icon will appear again on the settings menu for the ones that didn’t have this option in beta 3.

Wi-Fi Sync will be available in Windows and the function Personal Hot Spot was disabled. The photos are displayed in chronological order and not random as the iOS 5 beta 3 did and iCloud allows the synchronization of the dates and information that are created of some installed application from App Store.

In Notifications Center, the hour of every message received is now displayed. The problem with an image that a user wanted to set it as a background was fixed and now is possible to have such an option from an image directly from Camera Roll.

The users should be very careful because a device should have a 50 percent minimum battery charge so that the software’s update to be made.

Over-the-Air iOS 5 beta 4 update and more!

The biggest news here seems to be that Apple has enabled OTA updates as it refers to issues related to the process of updating iOS 5 b3 to iOS 5 b4 over the air.

Here’s what the OTA update process looks like:

Here is the same dialog in progress on an iPad, along with the final stages of the update being applied:

You’ll note that the update is only 133mb. This is significantly smaller than the 823mb of the full-size update available from Apple’s developer site. This is due to the fact that the OTA updates only download new or altered code, patching the existing software. These types of updates are called ‘Delta’ updates and are popular on mobile devices because of the reduced amount of data transfer.

The other major change is that applications that receive notifications and deliver them to the Notification Center will now clear those notifications when the app’s notifications are read. This means that if you clear off your badge or read the messages inside the app, the notifications will disappear from Notification Center. Previously they had to be cleared manually. This is a huge step up.

Apple has also added a menu option dedicated to documents in iCloud in this release. While the service has been available for envelopers to test in all releases of the iOS 5 beta, the menu options to op in or out of the service are new.

As has been the case with the last 3 releases of iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 beta, you will not be able make backups of iPhones running iOS 5 Beta 3 or earlier with the new iTunes beta. Apple recommends that you make a backup first, upgrade to iTunes 10.5 b4, then restore. You may get a connection error but the restore will still complete.

There are issues forwarding email messages with attachments in this release. You may also experience the loss of album art if you alter your music library via syncing to your computer.

The Personal Hotspot feature of the iPhone 4 will not work on iOS 5 b4.

Wireless syncing to iTunes is now available to Windows users on iOS 5 b4 and iTunes 10.5 b4.

How to Activate iOS 5 Beta 3 on iPad and iPod touch Without a Developer Account

  1. First you will need to restore your iPad or iPod touch to iOS 5. Having done so, put in under Recovery Mode.
  2. Now unplug the device from your PC or Mac and shut it off.
  3. Now plug it back into your computer and let it turn on.
  4. Once your iPad or iPod touch turns on, you should shortly see the Setup screen which says "iPad" or "iPod" depending on your device. Once you do, put your device to Sleep mode by hitting the power button. Hit the Power button to turn it back on.
  5. Now instead of the usual iOS 5 Setup screen, you should be seeing the standard iOS bubbles. Now press the Home button 3 times which would bring up the Voice Over.
  6. Unlock your device by sliding. You should see the time on the top right of the screen , tap on it. You device should start reading the time for you through Voice Over, while it is doing so, slide down your three fingers from the status to bring up the Notifications Center.
  7. In the Notifications Center, tap on the weather widget followed by pressing the Home button. If done correctly, your iPad or iPod should now be activated.

For those who are trying out this workaround, keep in mind that the iOS 5 is currently in Beta for a reason. Early iOS builds are filled with bugs and some features might not work properly which is why they are recommended for more advanced users. If you want to get access to iOS betas, then you can always do so the legit way. Just head over to Apple's iOS Dev Center and enroll for an account. Aside from the annual fee of $99, there are no other requirements in order to qualify.

iPod App buggy in iOS 5 beta 4?

It seems that in my iPod app on my iPhone, it has put all my artists wherever it wants to! It has some general order to it, but i've seen about 10 copies of the artist BAR 9 and Afro Jack jotted across my iPod app. Because of this, it has made the artist names not fall under the starting letter, for example, if scrolled to C on the scroll bar on the right, it would start with a few artists beginning with the letter B, then move onto C half way through.... Hopefully they will fix this in the next update.

Camera and Photos app not working on iOS 5 beta 4?

It seems that when you open the photo's app on your iTouch or iPhone, it crashes. To try and bypass this inconvinience, I took a photo, the clicked the little photo preview in the bottom left hand corner of the camera app. It brings up a screen saying i have no photos or videos! Hopefully this should get fixed in the new update.
